The Canadian tenor Dan Chamandy received his vocal training at Dalhousie University, and the University of Toronto, beginning his career in 1996 as a member of the Canadian Opera Company Ensemble. From there he made his move to Europe, singng with the International Studio of the Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam, and a one-year Tour as Sou Chong in DAS LAND DES LÄCHELNS with the Hoofdstad Operette.

From 1999 to 2008, he was engaged at the Tiroler Landestheater in Innsbruck, where he performed leading tenor roles such as Don José (CARMEN), Calaf (TURANDOT), Florestan (FIDELIO), Stolzing (DIE MEISTERSINGER VON NÜRNBERG), and Sergej (LADY MACBETH OF MZENSK). He also sang Sergej at the State Theatre in Wiesbaden and the Komische Oper Berlin.

For the past ten years, he was a fixed guest at Stadttheater Gießen, taking on roles such as Alwa (LULU), Ferry (VIKTORIA UND IHR HUSAR), Boche (TANZ AUF DEM PULVERFASS), Niko (GEGEN DIE WAND), Biberhahn (HÄUPTLING ABENDWIND) Baba Mustapha (THE BARBER OF BAGHDAD) and last season as John Twist Sr. (BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN).

He has been a guest performer, portraying roles like Sou-Chong (THE LAND OF SMILES) in Wiesbaden, Darmstadt and Salzburg, as well as Paul (DIE TOTE STADT) at the New York City Opera and Stadttheater Passau and The Mayor (DER BESUCH DER ALTEN DAME) in Radebeul.

When not on stage, Dan is sitting at his writing desk, where he has penned the award winning TV pilot script, The Bombecker Raceway, and two novels coming out this fall. He also formed and conducts the Meidlinger Choir in Vienna.
